Electronic Health Records Specialist $139
One of the most important tasks in the practice of medicine is managing information. In order to provide the highest quality of care, physicians need ready access to a patient’s comprehensive health history. The allied health professional who is responsible for integrating patients’ lifelong health information in a digital format is an Electronic Health Records Specialist.
Electronic Health Records Specialists provide support to the rest of the team in doctors’ offices, hospitals, outpatient facilities, nursing homes and other healthcare settings. They efficiently manage and maintain medical records in those settings.
As a MedCA-certified EHR Specialist, you will process health information data, navigate EHR software and manage applications of EHR technology. In addition, EHR Specialists are responsible for auditing patient records to check for compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, creating abstract clinical information to be included in reports, performing basic coding to submit claims for reimbursement to insurers, processing Release of Information (ROI) requests for medical records, reviewing patient records to ensure they are accurate and complete, collecting patient demographic and insurance information, and protecting the privacy and security of patient information.
Additional duties may include database and systems management; coordinating data entry, maintenance, corrections, reporting and troubleshooting any problems; training others on the proper use of EHR software; and contacting physicians for any clarifications needed regarding the details of reports.
